RIV ONE was born on February 23, 1984 as Dion Isaac Watkins in Rockford, Illinois. Growing up on the Westside of Rockford, RIV is never reluctant to represent his city which is where his inspiration for his stage name derived. RIV, representing the “Rock River” and “River District” that is associated with Rockford. The “ONE” part of the name describes the authentic, original, unique sound of RIV ONE, he is the only “One” like him. RIV has always had an artistic side as a child who enjoyed drawing and painting in school. However, at the age of 14 RIV ONE discovered the paintbrush was not the only tool he was good at, but that the microphone is where is voice really could come alive.
